A voice from beyond the void

Hi all,
I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've written. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I had anything of use to tell you. What lessons do you learn when everything is going right?

Last summer I was hired as an editorial assistant. It was an incredible break--one that I had nearly given up on. (I suppose I'll have to tell that story at another time, when it's not 10:00 on a Monday night and work starts bright and early in the morning.) Since then, I've been cutting my teeth in the publishing industry, just like I'd always dreamed.

Okay, not exactly like I'd always dreamed, but pretty darn close. I have a roommate, an apartment, a job in the industry I love, a whole life here in the Big Apple.  But I'm working on technology books, not fiction. Hey, you have to start somewhere, right?

I've started to realize how much I miss helping people, giving feedback on good stories that just need a little tweaking to become great stories. That's what I want to be doing--helping other people make their stories great, and the best way I've found to do that is offer what insight I have. And since I set up this blog to share what I've learned, I've been wondering...what have I learned? More accurately, what I have learned that would help anyone else, especially in the fiction world?

So I'm going to try to pay more attention to my life and, hopefully, I will have some applicable lessons to share soon. Perhaps people have questions I can answer? Something to kick off this re-blogging effort? I'm sure something will come up.

So thanks for tuning in again, after one heck of a hiatus. I guess we'll just have to see where this goes.

Rayna
